Umiami, a French plant-based food producer, has rebranded as SWAP Food and launched SWAP Chicken, its first product in the North American market. The company has selected Chicago as its entry point to the US food industry and has secured listings at several restaurants.
SWAP Chicken uses the company's proprietary "Umisation" process and has only eight ingredients, including soy protein, pea protein, and yeast extract. It is free from GMOs, artificial flavors, colorants, and texturizers like methylcellulose.
The rebranding was a strategic move to make the brand more accessible to international consumers. Moreover, SWAP aims to expand beyond plant-based chicken into other meat and fish substitutes, with its new name intended to act as a call to action for consumers to "swap" to plant-based meats.
