Mysten Labs, a Web3 infrastructure company and developer of the Sui layer-1 blockchain, has launched the public testnet for its Walrus Protocol, a decentralized storage network. The testnet is currently supported by 25 independent community operators globally. Walrus is designed to handle unstructured data efficiently across a network of independent nodes.
The Walrus Testnet introduces features such as the ability to delete blobs, a WAL token for tokenomics, and a delegated proof-of-stake model. It uses a 2D encoding algorithm called Red Stuff for efficient storage, and Sui blockchain as a coordination layer. The testnet also includes a CLI-based WAL token faucet, APIs for tokenomics, and a Testnet explorer.
The company states that Walrus supports dynamic websites, AI datasets, content delivery networks, and ledger data from various blockchains, providing a decentralized storage solution designed to be cost-effective, versatile, and efficient.
