Perplexity launches native macOS app on Mac App Store

Product updates

  • Perplexity, a GenAI conversational and search tool company, has launched its native macOS application. The app is free to download from the Mac App Store, with an optional Perplexity Pro subscription priced at USD 20 per month or USD 200 annually.

  • The macOS app features Pro Search with voice or text input, Thread Follow-Up for continuous conversations, source tracking, history search, keyboard shortcuts, file upload capabilities, and voice dictation mode. The free tier allows users to access quick searches, while Pro subscribers get access to over 300 in-depth Pro searches.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Perplexity's launch of a native Mac app positions it as a direct competitor to established AI tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT, which debuted its macOS app earlier this year. This move reflects a growing trend among AI startups to enhance accessibility and user experience through dedicated desktop applications.
