Abridge, an AI-powered clinical documentation platform, has partnered with OpenNotes, a health transparency research organization at BIDMC, to improve patient visit documentation.
The partnership, part of BIDMC's new OpenNotes Lab initiative, will evaluate Abridge's AI-generated patient visit summaries through focus groups to enhance their usefulness and accessibility. The collaboration aims to establish new standards for AI use in clinical documentation while ensuring the summaries effectively serve patients and clinicians.
Abridge's platform currently creates real-time clinical documentation and patient visit summaries at an eighth-grade reading level, providing information about diagnoses, medications, and next steps. The research will use patient feedback to improve these summaries without using actual patient data in the initial phase.
Analyst QuickTake: This marks the sixth partnership Abridge has entered in 2024. Among others, Abridge’s partnerships with NVIDIA , Epic, Mayo Clinic , and Wolters Kluwer were formed to refine the company’s platform, a strategy the company appears to pursue, as seen with its partnership with OpenNotes.
