Onego Bio, a Finnish food technology company, has opened a 5,000 sq ft commercial headquarters in San Diego, California. The company is also planning its first industrial-scale manufacturing facility in the US, which will have a 2-million-liter fermentation capacity, equivalent to 6 million laying hens annually.
The facility includes office spaces, advanced laboratory capabilities, and a test kitchen for demonstrating applications of its Bioalbumen product, an animal-free egg protein created through precision fermentation.
The company chose San Diego for its strong biotechnology ecosystem and proximity to leading research institutions, universities, and food tech innovators. The location will support Onego Bio's North American commercialization strategy, where regulatory conditions are expected to enable faster market launch than Europe.
