Imagindairy receives approval for commercial sale of animal-free whey in Israel

Regulation/policy

  • Imagindairy, an Israeli food tech startup, has received regulatory approval from Israel's Ministry of Health to sell its precision fermentation-derived whey protein (beta-lactoglobulin) to manufacturers for consumer use.

  • The company operates a 100,000 l fermentation facility and produces its whey protein at price parity with conventional dairy. As part of its go-to-market strategy, Imagindairy plans to pursue additional market approvals.

  • Analyst QuickTake: This approval makes Imagindairy the second precision fermentation company after Remilk to receive authorization to sell its protein in Israel. The company previously received FDA clearance in the US in January.
