OpenAI has submitted a trademark application to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for OpenAI o1, its latest AI reasoning model.
Before the USPTO filing, OpenAI had already filed for a foreign trademark application in Jamaica in May, months before the o1 model was publicly announced.
The company has approximately 30 trademark registrations, including ChatGPT, Sora, GPT-4o, and DALL-E. However, OpenAI failed to trademark "GPT" in February when the USPTO ruled it too generic.
OpenAI is currently in a trademark dispute with technologist Guy Ravine over the use of Open AI, which Ravine claims he pitched as part of an open-source AI vision around 2015.
