BMW Group has announced that it is investing EUR 10 million ( ∼USD 10.5 million) to build a competence center for battery cell recycling (CRCC) in Kirchroth, Lower Bavaria. The center will implement a direct recycling process for battery cells.
The company reports that the CRCC will focus on mechanically dismantling residual materials from battery cell production and entire battery cells into their valuable components. The recovered materials will be directly reused in pilot production at BMW's battery cell competence centers.
According to BMW, the new center will enhance its in-house expertise by creating a closed circuit for battery cells and integrating development, pilot production, and recycling processes.
