EVSX Corp, a subsidiary of St-Georges Eco-Mining specializing in battery recycling, has started installing a battery recycling line at its Thorold, Ontario, plant. The company reports that this facility has received an Environmental Compliance Approval permit and secured a three-year battery supply agreement with Call2Recycle.
The company claims that the highly automated multi-chemistry processing line can handle various battery types, including alkaline, zinc-carbon, nickel-cadmium, lithium-ion, and electric vehicle batteries. It also processes irregular materials and small batteries, supports varying batch sizes, and allows rapid shutdowns and restarts without retooling.
The new facility, which is claimed to have a 93% recycling efficiency rate and 10,000-ton annual capacity, enables battery metals to be reused, metals like aluminum and steel to be repurposed, and waste materials to be processed into fertilizer and feedstock.
