Apple partners with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iOS 18.2

Partnerships

  • Apple and OpenAI have partnered to integrate ChatGPT functionality into iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 as part of Apple Intelligence tools.

  • The integration allows users to access ChatGPT through Siri and Apple's Writing Tools to provide features such as automatic text suggestions based on what the user is writing and a feature that allows users to insert images directly into documents. The integration also facilitates new Apple features such as "Image Playground," which provides text-to-image capabilities; "Genmoji," which enables users to create custom emojis; and an "Image Wand," feature on the Notes app that transforms rough sketches into detailed images.

  • The partnership provides users access to ChatGPT features with or without an OpenAI account. Expanded language support will roll out throughout 2025, starting with English-speaking regions in April.
