Substack announced the “Substack Grow” program, an initiative to help writers add paying subscribers and reach their first USD 1,000 in earnings via a free, six-session course over Zoom starting next month.
Amid rising competition with similar products from Facebook and Twitter, Substack is trying to attract writers by promoting “true independence” and providing services such as customer support, health care coverage, and legal assistance. The platform is also considering bundling newsletters and delivering more community tools.
The platform’s top 10 publishers already bring in more than USD 20 million per year in combined subscription revenue.
Founded in 2017, Substack offers a publishing platform that includes design, analytics, and payment infrastructure to assist newsletter subscriptions. The platform enables writers to focus on content creation and monetization via subscriptions. Substack has more than 500,000 paid subscribers as of March 2021.
