Loop Energy signs up South Korean NGVI as first customer for eFlow fuel cell system

Partnerships

  • Loop Energy, a Canadian hydrogen fuel cell module and stacks developer, announced the first order placement for its ‘eFlow’ Hydrogen Fuel Cell systems through an agreement with Natural Gas Vehicles International (NGVI), a South Korean-based manufacturer of compressed natural gas fuel storage systems for transit and coach buses.

  • This agreement will enable Loop Energy to supply NGVI with its patented eFlow fuel cell system which includes a fully integrated package of fuel cell module, cooling system, and DCDC power conditioning equipment. Loop Energy considers this agreement to be an important milestone, given that it widens the geographical footprint into South Korea and enables the entry into the transit bus market segment.

  • The first order under the agreement is earmarked to build the first testing and homologation vehicle for Ulsan Metropolitan City under the previous agreement entered between NGVI and Ulsan Metropolitan City for the supply of hydrogen-powered transit buses. Ulsan City plans to invest KWR 2.3 billion (USD 2 million) by 2024 to test and certify hydrogen technologies for transit buses. After the demonstration phase, they aim to expand the buses to the fleet operated in Seoul, the capital city.
