Klarna raises USD 639 million at a USD 45.6 billion valuation

Funding

  • Klarna, a leading BNPL provider in Europe, has raised EUR 524.4 million (USD 639 million) in a funding round led by Softbank’s Vision Fund 2. The round came at a valuation of EUR 37.4 billion (USD 45.6 billion). This marks a significant jump from its valuation when it raised USD 1 billion in March 2021. Existing investors Adit Ventures, Honeycomb Asset Management, and WestCap Group also participated.

  • The funding is expected to be used to expand in the US and globally. Klarna is accelerating its investments, having entered six new markets in 2021, including New Zealand and France, with more on the way. Furthermore, Klarna allocated the funds to support potential acquisitions, particularly “acqui-hires”, having already announced in May 2021 that it plans to double its headcount in the UK by 2022.
