QuantumScape partners with a large automaker to test prototypes

QuantumScape, a solid-state battery company, announced it has partnered with one of the top-ten automakers by global revenue, to evaluate prototypes of solid-state battery cells.

The partnership will enable the undisclosed automaker to purchase 10 megawatt-hours of battery capacity from QuantumScape’s pre-pilot production line (QS-0) facility.

QuantumScape plans to deliver advanced prototypes before the QS-0 facility commences mass production in 2023.

QuantumScape’s share price increased by 16% on Tuesday, following the news.
- Analyst QuickTake: This is QuantumScape's second partnership with a top-ten automaker following a joint venture with Volkswagen that dates back to 2018 for the development of solid-state batteries for the automaker’s next-generation electric vehicles. Meanwhile, Ford and BMW have partnered with QuantumScape’s rival, Solid Power.
