Turtle Tree Labs, a startup that develops animal-free milk using cellular agriculture technology, has announced its R&D facility's official opening in West Sacramento. The 24,000 sq.ft. facility is expected to develop precision fermentation technology and will serve as a hub for Turtle Tree Labs’ future collaborations with educational institutions, research-focused partners, and strategic partners. The startup predicts that the new facility will create 40 new tech-related job opportunities in the Greater Sacramento area.
The startup produced the world's first cell-cultured breast milk in February 2020 and intends to expand its product offering with cell-cultured meat and dairy products. The startup has also developed lactoferrin— a protein found in both cow’s milk and human breast milk, which it hopes to commercialize as their first product.
