Nikola Motor Company (Nikola), a developer of heavy-duty battery-electric and fuel cell electric trucks, has announced a strategic partnership with TC Energy Corporation, a Canadian energy infrastructure company, to build and operate large-scale hydrogen hubs in the US and Canada.
The collaboration aims to build hubs producing 150 tons of hydrogen per day or more, positioned near busy truck routes to power Nikola's Class 8 fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) within the next five years.

Analyst QuickTake: The partnership with TC Energy is Nikola's latest attempt at producing hydrogen to power its FCEV fleet. The company has shown an active interest in developing hydrogen refueling stations across North America and Europe, in line with its plans to commercialize FCEVs. Just last month, Nikola signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OPAL Fuels , a leading provider of renewable natural gas (RNG), to develop and operate hydrogen fueling stations in North America. Nikola expects to launch its Tre and Two FCEV models in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
