Miso Robotics unveils ‘Flippy 2,’ its 2nd Gen burger-flipping robot

Product updates

 • Miso Robotics, a kitchen automation company, has unveiled “Flippy 2,” the second generation of its flagship burger-making robot “Flippy,”—developed with feedback from its innovation partner and early adopter White Castle, a fast-food hamburger chain.

 • Flippy 2 can handle the work of the entire fry station, i.e., loading, frying, and placing the items in a hot holding area without assistance (previously, it required assistance at both sides of the robot to complete the task). The unit can handle up to 60 baskets per hour, a 30% increase compared to the original, given zero manual assistance required.

 • It comes equipped with the latest “AutoBin” system—an array of customizable food-safe bins into which food is dropped to be cooked. The unit is more compact compared to the original version—56% reduced aisle intrusions, 13% reduction in height, and a smaller surface area. Like the original version, Flippy 2 also uses machine vision for its operations.

 • Flippy 2 will be debuted at a White Castle location in Chicago, with plans to deploy the robot at around 10 more White Castle locations in 2022. Miso Robotics also plans to roll out about a dozen additional pilots in the coming months and is in talks with more restaurant brands in the US and overseas to deploy the unit.

Analyst QuickTake: The news comes less than two weeks after Miso Robotics unveiled “Flippy Wings,” a robotic chicken-wing-frying solution. Earlier this year , the company also announced its plans to introduce a beverage-dispensing robot, marking its entry into the beverage preparation robotics space. It also offers “CookRight,” the AI and machine learning-driven cooking platform powering Flippy (since May 2021). Miso Robotics is the only startup in the restaurant robotics industry offering a range of robotic solutions as well as a software platform that powers its robots as a standalone service offering.
