IDEX Biometrics, a provider of fingerprint identification sensors, has been selected by card manufacturer Union Smart Card Co. to develop the latter’s cold wallet visual payment card—digital wallets that are not connected to the internet and act as a secure means of storing cryptocurrency—that will be launched to the public via six major Chinese banks.  

The card is manufactured through a cold sealing process and includes Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, expanded storage, a display, and a keypad in addition to the IDEX Biometrics sensor. 

IDEX noted that the cold wallet will raise digital currency/electronic payment (DC/EP) inclusion by serving as a physical alternative to mobile wallets and allowing people to participate in the digital currency scheme without the need for a smartphone.
