Visa and Mastercard approve Idemia’s “F Code” cards featuring IDEX Biometrics’ “TrustedBio” solution

Regulation/policy

  • Visa and Mastercard have issued letters of approval (LOAs) for Idemia’s second-generation biometric payment card platform, “F Code”, thereby giving card issuers across the globe access to the platform.

  • IDEX Biometrics’ "TrustedBio” fingerprint solution features in the F Code platform and will benefit from the approvals as it paves the way for high-volume deployment of its technology.

  • Idemia is a French company that offers a wide range of biometric identity verification solutions and payment cards. Idemia was also the second-largest manufacturer of EMV payment cards in the world, with 708 million shipments in 2019 (only behind Thales’ 1,085 million). Leveraging its expertise in payment card manufacturing and biometric identity verification, the company partnered with leading fingerprint sensor manufacturer Fingerprint Cards AB to launch Idemia’s F Code biometric payment card, in 2017. The F Code card lets users enroll their fingerprints onto the card from their homes or through bank branches, retaining the data on the card itself.
