Monzo, a British provider of online banking services to individuals and businesses, has raised USD 500 million in a funding round led by Abu Dhabi Growth Fund, with participation from Accel and Goodwater. New investors Coatue and Alpha Wave Ventures also participated in the round. The round values the company at USD 4.5 billion and brings its total funding to USD 1.1 billion.
The fresh funds will mainly be funneled into talent acquisition, marketing, and product development, with plans to launch a stock trading platform for retail investors.
The funding comes on the heels of steady growth, with Monzo’s user base reaching over 5 million and its headcount increasing by 60% since January to reach 2,100.
