Video conferencing platform Zoom has acquired Liminal, an event production company, for an undisclosed amount. Following the acquisition, Liminal co-founders Andy Carluccio and Jonathan Kokotajlo will join Zoom.
Liminal uses Zoom’s software development kit (SDK) to improve the quality of hybrid event production. Liminal’s solutions include ZoomOSC (which allows users to send commands to Zoom through third-party applications) and ZoomISO (which exports video output of meeting participants into professional production software, including an option to export five video outputs in high definition).
Through the acquisition, Zoom aims to leverage Liminal’s solutions to improve its hybrid event management capacity and expand its event management offering. Creative organizations such as theaters and broadcast studios will be able to produce, edit, and broadcast live events on Zoom as well as conduct pre-event planning and view post-event analytics.
