REE Automotive commences trials of its P7 delivery platform

Product updates

  • REE Automotive, an Israeli company developing customizable four-wheel self-driving electric chassis platforms, is commencing trials of its P7 delivery platform, which is designed for medium-duty commercial delivery vehicles (Class 3–5).

  • The trials will take place in the UK and Israel, with plans to start customer evaluations in Q1 2022. The platform was developed targeting a US-based delivery van program, according to specifications from an unnamed delivery company. It allows commercial fleets to build a customized vehicle brand.

  • P7 is a modular platform that comes with its proprietary REEcorner and X-by-Wire technology that integrates all drive components into the arch of the wheel. The platform is designed to carry a maximum payload of 8,800 lbs (or equivalent to 30 passengers), with the ability to travel at speeds of up to 80 mph. It also gives visibility and insights to fleet operators on a data-as-a-service basis.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The news comes following a busy year for REE Automotive, where the company announced partnerships with several parties, including Hitachi America (December 2021), Hino Motors (April 2021), and Magna International (April 2021) to develop its modular electric vehicle platforms. The company also received a USD 17 million grant from the UK government last August for commercial production of its EV platforms. In addition to P7, the company also designs several other platforms targeting light-duty cargo and passenger vehicles, and intercity deliveries, etc., which are yet to be trailed.
