AgroScout, an Israeli startup that offers an AI-based crop monitoring and analytics platform, has acquired the assets and clients of TerrAvion, an image delivery service provider for farms. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
TerrAvion’s main service is called “OverView”; it delivers aerial images overnight and throughout the growing season to monitor the growth and development of crops, along with synthetic maps and analysis. The analysis allows growers to track crop growth and associated productivity and profitability. TerrAvion also helps growers calculate the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), which is calculated using information collected through infrared light. The company was reported to have filed for bankruptcy in September 2020.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen AgroScout’s analytics platform by improving its aerial imagery capabilities, adding new features such as high-resolution NDVI and Red-Green-Blue (RGB) imaging sensors. In addition, existing clients of AgroScout and TerrAvion are expected to gain access to aerial and satellite imagery products combined with AgroScout’s precision agriculture services effective immediately.
