Coco, a remote-controlled last-mile food delivery droid developer, has expanded its service to include San Pedro, Los Angeles, in partnerships with local businesses as per an agreement reached by the Los Angeles City Council.
The pilot program will include four restaurants, and Coco believes most deliveries would be within 20 minutes of reach.
The company also stated that it plans to expand its service to multiple locations in Los Angeles. Coco now has a fleet of around 50 robots in operation.
Coco offers independent hosts to join the platform, where such hosts will be responsible for managing their own fulfillment centers and a small fleet of robots, controlled within a one-mile radius of the restaurant. Coco will provide the inventory, software, and hardware required to set up operations for free. Independent hosts can earn money with each order, while Coco charges a service fee on each delivery. The company began trial operations in Santa Monica, CA, in August 2020.
