Israeli food tech company Plantish has unveiled the world’s first vegan whole-cut salmon fillet. Legume proteins and algae extracts were used to produce the plant-based salmon, which is claimed to be high in protein and Omega 3. Plantish’s additive manufacturing technology, which sets it apart from competitors, is waiting on a patent. The company’s plant-based salmon will be offered at select pop-up locations later this year, while the official launch is planned for 2024.
Founded less than a year ago, Plantish focused its production capabilities to develop a substitute for salmon to reduce wasteful fishing and environmental impact. In April 2021, the company raised USD 2 million in funding from TechAviv Founder Partners, a venture fund backed by 33 unicorn founders and several angel investors, which includes the likes of Michelin chef José Andrés, and vlogger Nuseir Yassin.
