Deel, a payroll and compliance platform that facilitates international employment, has acquired Roots, an HR platform for team culture improvement and employee wellness, for an undisclosed amount, to support Deel customers better manage remote work. The Roots team is expected to join Deel, while its technology will be made available to all Deel customers in the near future.
Founded in 2017, Roots features a range of Slack-based plugins to manage paid time off (PTO), onboarding, one-on-one meetings, candidate referrals, and watercooler conversations. The platform also integrates with G-Suite, Office 365, Workday, BambooHR, ADP, and Sapling. Roots is currently used in over 65 countries, and its customers include the likes of Gitlab, Toptal, Miro, and Affinity.

It raised USD 425 million in October 2021 and outlined plans for product development and exploring potential acquisition opportunities.
