Plenty, a US hydroponic-based vertical farming company selling herbs and greens, has appointed Aruma Kukutai as the chief executive officer (CEO). He replaces Matt Barnard, co-founder and former CEO of Plenty who will continue to operate as an executive chairman.
Kukutai, considered an agritech veteran, brings in 20 years of experience in farming, agriculture investment, and sustainability. He has previously served as an executive chairman of PKW Farms, an investment firm involved in dairy farming and aquaculture activities in New Zealand, Australia, and Asia. He has also held governmental roles, having led New Zealand’s Trade & Investment Agency in North America. He is also the co-founder and partner at Finistere Ventures, a venture capital firm for agriculture startups.
In his new role, Kakutai will focus on transforming Plenty into a scaled vertical farming company. Kukutai has been working with Plenty since 2016, being an investor and part of the board of directors.
