Luko, a French homeowner and renters insurance provider, has announced its all-equity acquisition of German insurtech startup Coya. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Coya’s offerings include home, private liability, dog liability, and bike insurance. Following the acquisition, it will be renamed Luko Insurance AG and its customer base of 80,000 will be amalgamated with Luko’s, reaching a total of 300,000.
Through the acquisition, Luko plans to leverage Coya’s recently obtained German insurance license to expand its footprint in the European market. It also plans to hire 100 new employees within the year and reach one million customers by 2023.
The acquisition follows a period of considerable growth for Luko, with the company reporting a user base that had doubled to 220,000 between November 2020 and November 2021.
