Ocado, an online supermarket group and technology provider based in the UK, has introduced two new robots and a virtual distribution center to improve the efficiency of order fulfillment and warehouse operations.
One of the robots is a 600 series bit, which the company claims to be lighter and more energy-efficient compared to the previous versions. More than half of the robot’s parts are 3D printed. The other is a set of advanced robotic arms developed for picking and packing, which the company claims is close to human precision.
The company also introduced Ocado Orbit, a virtual distribution center, which connects micro-fulfillment centers and warehouses into one system, which ensures that goods are delivered from the closest warehouse/fulfillment center, reducing delivery times and improving efficiency.
