Kubota, a Japanese listed agricultural machinery manufacturer, announced that it is developing a new AI-based autonomous vineyard robot that can monitor the growth of wine grapes.
The robots use AI and cameras to autonomously navigate the vineyards and provide insights into the growth of the grapes. Kubota plans to develop the robot’s capabilities to harvest wine grapes on its own in the future.
To do so, Kubota also partnered with DIMAAG-AI, a US startup offering AI-based end-to-end automation solutions, where it will use the services of Ian Wright, the co-founder of Tesla and technical advisor at DIMAAG-AI, for the development of its robots.
The robots are being developed by the company’s North America Research and Development Unit in Texas. The company expects demand from the US West Coast farmers that use traditional farming equipment, with plans to also sell the robots to global markets.
