The UK-based esports organization Guild Esports reported its financial results for the year ended FY2021 (ending September 2021).
It reported that total revenue amounted to GBP 1.9 million (approx. USD 2.6 million) in FY2021. This was 2.5x better than its run-rate revenue recorded in the H1 FY2021. Sponsorship revenue worth over GBP 1 million (approx. USD 1.4 million) accounted for the majority of the revenue (55%), followed by prize money of GBP 717,000 (approx. USD 962,000). Gross profits stood at GBP 1.1 million (approximately USD 1.5 million) with a gross profit margin of roughly 57%, almost double the 29% it posted in 1HFY2021. Guild retained roughly 7% of prize money, with prize money payments to players accounting for the bulk of direct costs (83%).
The company’s net losses increased to GBP 8.8 million (approx. USD 11.8 million) from GBP 2.7 million (approx. USD 3.7 million) in FY2020 (year ended September 2020). The company cited continued investments in its esports teams the Guild Academy (online esports training service) and team infrastructure for the losses.
