ProTag, a New Zealand-based startup providing remote sensor-based ear tags for cows, has raised NZD 1 million (USD 670,000) led by Sprout Agritech, an NZ-based investment company.
The funds will support the product development of ProTag’s sensors and in conducting trials later this year, where farmers in the South Island and Waikato have shown interest in the product. The company aims to target the NZ market in the short term, with plans to expand internationally in Brazil and Ireland.
ProTag’s sensors are attached to the cow’s ear and use machine learning (ML), AI, IoT, and GPS technology to monitor health, location, and behavioral patterns in real time. It also provides early detection of illnesses such as mastitis and lameness (leg and foot pain) using its ML algorithms.
