Bolt Threads launches Mylo-based yoga bags for Lululemon

Product updates

 • Bolt Threads, a mycelium-based material “Mylo” producer, and Canadian athletic apparel retailer Lululemon have launched a bio-based yoga bag collection.

 • The bags are made from Bolt Thread’s mushroom leather, Mylo. The companies have unveiled two types of Mylo-based bags: a multipurpose bag that can be used as a yoga mat and carry bag, and a storage bag with pockets for workout gear. The bags are priced at USD 328 and USD 238, respectively, and are available for purchase via Lulumelon’s online store in North America and selected stores in Hong Kong, Japan, China, and Australia.

 • The companies had not released the Mylo-based yoga mats it had plans for earlier despite having created a concept design during product development.

Analyst QuickTake: Bolt Threads has been securing partnerships in a bid to reach commercial production of Mylo by the end of 2022. The startup initially entered into a partnership with Lululemon in July 2021 to introduce its Mylo material in creating yoga accessories. In addition, Bolt Threads has also formed a “Mylo Consortium”, partnering with brands such as Adidas, Stella McCartney, Kering, and Lululemon, who have collectively invested in Bolt Threads to support the production of Mylo and secure access to a large supply of the bio-based material.
