The world’s first publicly listed cell-cultured milk company Wilk (previously known as Biomilk) has received patent approval for its methods and systems for in-vitro milk production from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), making the startup an exclusive patent holder for research methods and technologies for the production of cultured milk and breastmilk.
The patent covers technology that enables Wilk to make, for the first time, genuine milk without the use of animals, real breast milk from human mammary cells, and methods and procedures that ease the separation of milk components from cultured cells in a manner that maximizes efficiency.
The patent gives Wilk's intellectual property and IP protection systems long-term protection and reinforcement and will help to further establish its position as a leader in cell-based milk production. Additional patent applications are being submitted by the company, including one for methods for increasing milk production in a cultured system.
