Deel adds feature to pay remote employees in crypto

Product updates

 • Deel, a payroll and compliance platform that facilitates international employment, has added a new feature to enable employers to pay their employees with cryptocurrencies. Currently, the feature only facilitates payments using USDC, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar.

The new feature is different from Deel’s crypto withdrawal feature introduced in November 2020 , as the withdrawal feature only allowed employees to partially withdraw their salaries (originally paid in fiat) in the form of cryptocurrencies, which results in exchange fees. The new feature allows companies to avoid exchange fees if the company primarily operates using cryptocurrencies.

 • Deel claims that 2% of payments through its platform were withdrawn as cryptocurrencies during July–December 2021. Salaries worth USD 4.7 million were withdrawn by employees in cryptocurrencies in December 2021, up 49% from the previous month. Overall, the company has seen a 10% month-to-month increase in demand for salaries in cryptocurrencies.
