Scalapay raises USD 497 million in Series B round; achieves unicorn status

Funding

Italian BNPL startup Scalapay has raised USD 497 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Tencent and Willoughby Capital, with participation from Tiger Global, Moore Capital, and Deimos. The round was a combination of equity (USD 213 million) and debt (USD 284 million) and brings the company’s valuation “well into unicorn territory”, according to CEO and Co-Founder Simone Mancini. The round follows its USD 155 million Series A in September 2021 and brings the company’s total funding to more than USD 700 million.

 • The funds will be allocated toward expansion into new markets and verticals such as travel. Part of the funds will also be diverted toward hiring across the EU, product development, and M&A opportunities.
