Infarm, a Berlin-based hydroponic vertical farming system startup offering herbs and green leaves, has signed an agreement with Coop Danmark (the second-largest consumer goods retailer in Denmark), to supply Infarm produce to all Coop stores across Denmark starting in Q2 2022.
The two companies initially partnered in 2019 to pilot selling Infarm’s produce across one of Coop’s five retail chains called ‘Irma’ stores. Upon the successful pilot at 35 Irma stores, Infarm will now serve all five retail chains owned by Coop, which include Kvickly, Fakta/Coop365, SuperBrugsen, and Dagli’Brugsen.
Infarm will supply over 1,000 Coop stores with leafy greens and herbs such as rosemary, thyme, coriander, and sage. The produce will be grown in-store, using Infarm’s farming units, or will be supplied by an Infarm growing center near Copenhagen.
Analyst QuickTake: The extended partnership suggests the growing preference for the company’s vertically grown produce. Infarm has reported its global growth plans to expand its vertical farming operations in the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan. This partnership also expands Infarm’s reach to 2,800+ retail stores worldwide, ahead of its competitors such as Plenty (1,300+ stores) and Bowery Farming (650+ stores).
