Meta introduces Meta Credits digital currency for Horizon Worlds

Product updates

  • Meta has introduced a digital currency called Meta Credits for its Horizon Worlds. The currency can be purchased on the Horizon Worlds platform using Meta Quest or the Meta Horizon mobile app at an exchange rate of USD 3 for 300 credits. Meta Credits are primarily used to purchase virtual goods within Horizon Worlds, currently available in the US, UK, and Canada.

  • Meta Credits serve as the underlying currency in the Horizon Worlds platform, allowing users to purchase virtual goods. This digital currency's key feature is exclusive in-app purchase capabilities. However, Meta Credits cannot be used to purchase hardware or accessories, nor can they be transferred between user accounts.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Meta's launch of Meta Credits marks a strategic move to establish an economy within its metaverse, mirroring Epic Games' use of digital currencies in Fortnite for virtual transactions. These initiatives highlight the growing role of digital currencies in enhancing transactions and user experiences in immersive digital spaces.
