Fastly, a cloud and edge services platform, launched its new “Compute@Edge” partner ecosystem, which includes a number of integrations to enable customers to build new edge computing use cases. This solution leverages Compute@Edge technology to offer developers access to scalability, performance, and security to extend their own platforms. Additionally, Fastly stated that all of the integrations in this new partner ecosystem have been pre-validated and tested for secure deployment.
Along with integrations with major cloud service providers such as Google Cloud, this solution will offer a number of new edge computing-related solutions including: 1) backend integrations (such as Backblaze and Storj), 2) database pairings (through integrations with Fauna, Macrometa, and Upstash), 3) developer tooling and experimentation (through integrations with Glitch, Edgemesh, and Optimizely), 4) logging and monitoring endpoints (through integrations with Datadog, and New Relic), and 5) security solutions (through integrations with Auth0, and Source Defense).
Analyst QuickTake: Fastly has periodically expanded the offerings of its Compute@Edge platform to make it easier for developers to build and launch websites and apps at the edge. Last July, the company introduced JavaScript (the most commonly used programming language) for the platform, months after launching new command line tools (CLI), Terraform API support, and additional language support in November 2020.
