Eat Just Inc. receives regulatory approval for its mung bean protein in the EU

Industry news

  • Eat Just Inc., a California-based egg and cell-cultured meat startup, announced that it has received exclusive regulatory approval from the European Commission for its mung bean protein, a key ingredient in its JUST Egg product.

  • As per the company, Eat Just’s mung bean-based egg is the only alternative of its kind approved in the EU so far. Furthermore, the mung bean protein is the first novel legume protein to be labeled safe under the body that has governed all new food ingredients entering Europe since May 1997. The company is planning a Q4 launch in the EU and is also in discussion with the UK’s Food Standards Agency to achieve regulatory approval in the UK.
