Umiami opens commercial-scale manufacturing plant to boost production capacity

Umiami, a French FoodTech startup, has raised EUR 32.5 million in Series A funding. The round was co-led by SPI Fund and French Tech Seed and saw participation from VERSO Capital, Astanor Ventures, Redalpine, and Newfund. The funds will be used to establish Umiami as a leader in the plant-based market, expand in France, accelerate product distribution in Europe, and enter the US market. To support its entry into the US, the company has appointed John Hatto as the managing director for North America.

Umiami raises EUR 32.5 million in Series A funding round

French plant-based brand Umiami has partnered with Swiss distribution specialist FFF Fresh & Frozen Food to introduce its vegan chicken fillet in 165 Coop stores across Switzerland. Umiami uses umisation technology to create its vegan chicken fillets, which closely resemble the taste, texture, and appearance of real chicken. The technology allows for the creation of plant-based whole-cuts without the need for 3D printing and can produce products up to three inches thick with meat-like fibers and minimal flavor loss.
