NVIDIA and Databricks sued over alleged copyright infringement in AI training

Management news

  • Cyberfiction authors Susan Orlean, Andre Dubus III, Jason Reynolds, and Rebecca Makka are suing NVIDIA and Databricks. The lawsuit accuses the companies of copyright infringement for using written works to train AI models NeMo Megatron and MosaicML.

  • The authors also claimed that the models produce content that competes directly with original creation while using large volumes of copyrighted works as inputs under the fair use claim.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Recently, several lawsuits have been filed over copyright infringement by AI. Last month, eight daily newspapers under Alden Global Capital sued OpenAI and Microsoft over publication data, and in January, non-fiction authors filed a lawsuit against Microsoft and OpenAI for copyright infringement.
