Apeel Science partners with Limoneira to extend shelf life of lemons

Partnerships

  • Apeel Sciences, a producer of edible coatings to extend the shelf life of fruits, has entered an exclusive licensing partnership with Limoneira Company, a diversified citrus grower and seller, where the latter will use Apeel’s edible coating technology to protect lemons across its supply chain.

  • Apeel-protected lemons have demonstrated reduced water loss, shrivel, and color change, improving market opportunities with retail and foodservice customers that demand sustainable and high-quality produce.

  • Limoneira will be Apeel's first fully integrated lemon supplier in the US, expanding the availability of Apeel-protected lemons globally. Apeel-coated Limoneira lemons is expected to be available on market shelves soon, with the coating technology allowing the fruit to maintain its quality for longer periods, irrespective of storage or merchandising.

  • Analyst QuickTake : Apeel Sciences’ edible coatings made of plant materials can extend the lifetime of fruits by 2-3x. The company's key strategy for product commercialization and growth has been to partner with produce suppliers and retailers. Limoneira joins the company's network of over 30 suppliers.
