Mercury Insurance announced the expansion of its usage-based insurance (UBI) app MercuryGO to Virginia, in partnership with Cambridge Mobile Telematics, a turnkey UBI solution provider.

The app generates driving skill scores of customers based on categories correlated with car crashes such as excessive speeding, hard braking, and distracted driving, which will be used to determine insurance premiums.

The app also offers customers various benefits such as enrolling discounts, a virtual driving coach as well as information sharing with family members such as who is the safest driver and real-time feedback on teen drivers. The company also claims customers could receive discounts up to 40% upon renewal depending on their driving score.
