        General Mills, a leading producer of consumer foods, has announced discontinuing its in-house dairy-free cheese brand, Bold Cultr, from February 27th onwards, due to deprioritization of funding for the brand.

        First launched in November 2021, Bold Cultr was initially made using Perfect Day&rsquo;s precision-fermented whey, before switching to using Remilk&rsquo;s precision-fermented protein as the main ingredient.

        The product was expected to make an expanded retail presence in the Minneapolis&ndash;Saint Paul area (along with an increased ecommerce presence), but it was later reported that consumers faced issues accessing the online store.

        General Mills was one of the first leading CPG brands to use precision fermented ingredients to develop in-house brands of dairy-free products. While the decision to stop production may hint toward caution in using precision fermented ingredients, the real effects are yet to be seen. In particular, companies like

         have already found success with precision fermentation and are on a path toward further growth.
