Broadcom plans to sell its recently acquired VMware's end-user computing (EUC) business to KKR, a private equity firm, for USD 3.8 billion.
The EUC division deal exhibits Broadcom's focus on restructuring and optimizing its business operations per market needs. The EUC business primarily deals with software that manages and optimizes end-user computing devices.
Post-acquisition, the transition shows Broadcom's strategic choice to enhance its competitive edge and promote steady growth in its core areas. Further, Broadcom is also looking at divesting VMware's security software sector, Carbon Black. Meanwhile, the acquisition is in keeping with KKR's history of strategic acquisitions within the technology sector.
Analyst QuickTake: Broadcom completed the acquisition of VMware in November 2023 for USD 69 billion as part of its strategy to diversify beyond hardware into enterprise infrastructure software. By acquiring VMware, which provides virtualization software that works with hardware such as fiber channel host-bus adapters, storage adapters, and network interface cards (which Broadcom produces), Broadcom aimed to extend its reach into the enterprise software market. Broadcom aims to make VMware more profitable and announced plans to double VMware's EBITDA to USD 8.5 billion over the next three years.
