Form Energy raises USD 30 million in grant funding

Xcel Energy has been awarded a $70 million grant from the US Department of Energy to partially fund two long-duration energy storage systems in Minnesota and Colorado. The funding aims to improve the reliability of renewable energy on the national grid. Form Energy, a long-term energy storage startup, will be developing iron-air batteries with a capacity of 10 MW/1,000 MWh. The construction of the battery systems is expected to begin in 2024, pending approval from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission for the system in Colorado.
