 <p>Janssen-Cilag International, a subsidiary of Johnson &amp; Johnson, has gained Type II variation approval from the European Commission for CARVYKTI (ciltacabtagene autoleucel or cilta-cel). This therapy is a one-time infusion for relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) patients who have had at least one previous treatment.</p>
 <p>Cilta-cel is a chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T) therapy that specifically targets B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), a protein found frequently on myeloma cells. It is approved for use in eligible patients as soon as the first relapse occurs. According to the company, this therapy can reduce the chances of RRMM progression or death by as much as 74%.</p>
 <p>Since May 2022, the drug has been approved in the EU for patients who have undergone a minimum of three previous treatments. Earlier this month, the FDA also approved it for RRMM patients who have received at least one prior therapy.</p>

 <p>Genetic testing firm BillionToOne has partnered with Janssen R&amp;D, a Johnson &amp; Johnson company, to conduct a global clinical trial for severe hemolytic disease. They will use BillionToOne's UNITY Fetal Antigen Clinical Trial Assay (CTA) to select participants for a critical Phase III trial. The partnership might result in a non-invasive prenatal test that detects blood type incompatibility between a pregnant person and a fetus. The assay is expected to receive global regulatory approval as the trial advances and is aiming to be implemented across the US, European Union, and other select countries.</p>

 <p>Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a sector of Johnson &amp; Johnson's (J&amp;J), has bought an X-linked retinitis pigmentosa (XLRP) gene therapy, botareti­gene sparopar­vovec, from MeiraGTx. The purchase was originally under the 2019 <a href="https://investors.meiragtx.com/news-releases/news-release-details/meiragtx-enters-strategic-collaboration-janssen-develop-and"> partnership </a> between MeiraGTx and Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Bota-vec addresses XLRP, a hereditary retinal disease that leads to vision impairment, and has gone through Phase I/II trials.</p>
 <p>Janssen will pay an upfront fee of USD 130 million and a further USD 285 million upon successful commercial sales in the US and EU. The deal strengthens MeiraGTx's financial position, prolonging its cash runway to mid-2026. The funds will be used to enhance Xerostomia and Parkinson's disease clinical programs and manufacturing capabilities.</p>
