Identity & Access Management

Ensuring the right people access the right resources at the right time

Overview

Identity & Access Management (IAM) is a framework of policies and technologies that helps organizations control and secure the access of users to resources in their digital environment. This involves technologies that deal with managing and controlling the identities of individuals, their roles, and the permissions they have to access various systems and data.

End-to-end IAM platforms for employees and customers cover a broad range of processes from 1) user provisioning: which involves creating and managing user accounts, 2) authentication tools to verify the identity of users, and 3) managing access and undertaking governance measures. These platforms help organizations mitigate security risks, protect sensitive corporate data, and comply with regulatory requirements.

In addition to these full-stack vendors, the IAM space also comprises startups that target specific aspects of authentication such as single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA). Most platforms operating in this space adopt a subscription-based business model, often labeled as Identity as a Service (IDaaS)—where all aspects of identity management are offered through the cloud.
