Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Purfi is a manufacturer of quality products including nonwovens, yarn & filaments, tile & composites, and paper & packaging, using rejuvenated industrial waste, predominantly textile waste. The company owns 20 patents/patents pending (and 35 trade secrets) for its proprietary technology, which rejuvenates waste material back to virgin-quality fiber utilizing 96% less water, 90% less energy, and emitting 40%–90% fewer greenhouse gasses than traditional virgin fiber production, in a closed loop manufacturing process, which enables at least 17 rejuvenated lifecycles.
As of November 2022, the company provided three categories of recycling solutions, which are fiber rejuvenation through patented reverse spinning technology, filament rejuvenation through chips and elastane removal through D’ElastaneTM technology. The initial step of Purfi’s recycling process is textile waste collection, where it collects a variety of pre-consumer, post-consumer, and post-industrial materials including, cotton, polyester, cotton/polyester blend, Modacryl, Aramids, Viscose, and Aramid/Viscose blend, from partners. For this purpose, the company has set up collection facilities in textile dense areas worldwide to lower transportation and resource costs, as well as the environmental impact. This step is followed by sorting & quality control, rejuvenation, and distribution & production. The company claims to provide complete transparency to customers throughout the process and ensures the supply of 100% pure fibers sanitized with anti-microbial treatments.
Key customers and partnerships
The company works with two types of partners; 180° partners, who only provide products, and 360° partners, who both provide textile waste and create a new high-quality product. Purfi claims that its technology has been commercialized for Ford, Mazda, Staples, Walmart, M&S, Sainsbury, Rockline Industries, U-Haul, and Nike. As of November 2022, the company had forged customer partnerships with Concordia Textiles and Crystal International Group Limited. In November 2022, the company partnered with Arvind Limited to launch a series of fiber rejuvenation facilities. The company also collaborated with two East African companies ENVIU and Upset Sourcing East Africa in a P4G partnership titled “Closing the loop on textile waste in Kenya”. Perfi also offers certification as “Powered by Purfi” to its partners for their commitment to a circular world.
Funding and financials
In April 2019, PurFi raised USD 25,000.
